New Release – “Wish I Was Sober” Rhys Lewis

Hot off the success of ‘Be Your Man’ and ‘I Know The Feeling’, Rhys Lewis continues the momentum with the release of his new single ‘Wish I Was Sober’, out today on Decca.

Showcasing Rhys’ undeniable soulful and raw vocals, this track hits hard right from the get go. Featuring London’s House Gospel Choir, ‘Wish I Was Sober’ is a powerful tune with a huge, impactful chorus. The bittersweet lyrics behold an undeniable tragic truth that really packs a punch when paired with the upbeat and uplifting melody.

Highlighting his ability to tell poignant stories through his lyrics, Rhys really gives his listeners space to connect to the sadness in the song’s themes. The lyrics delve deep into the emotions associated with the loss of a lover, and the regret of wishing you had said something at the time.

Speaking of the new track, Rhys says:

I’m really bad at opening up in relationships and saying how I feel about someone. I keep a lot to myself and often assume the person I’m with knows how I’m feeling. I messed up my last relationship because I never told my ex how much she meant to me. ‘Wish I Was Sober’ is about the night I drowned my sorrows after the break-up, and about how I tried to resist the urge to ‘drunk call’ my ex and pour my heart out to her at 3 in the morning.”

Rhys has spent the past year writing and recording for his debut album, performing to sold out crowds in the UK and supporting James TW on his European Tour. He has become somewhat of an online sensation over the past 12 months, with his first release ‘Waking Up Without You’ soaring to the #1 spot on Spotify’s Viral Chart, his latest track ‘Be Your Man’ hitting 1 million streams in 4 weeks and racking up 6 million streams in total. His track ‘I Know The Feeling’ has also received huge support on BBC Radio 2 this summer.

The Oxford-born bright talent has spent time between studios in London, Nashville, Stockholm, LA and Berlin, which has allowed him to develop a maturity to his song-writing, fusing a rich soulful tone with a lyrical immediacy straight from the heart of Bill Withers, James Taylor and Carole King. Rhys has an undeniable gift to capture emotions that will strike a chord with anyone, and has already garnered a troupe of loyal fans in the UK as well as internationally.

Rhys will be embarking on a European and a UK headline tour this autumn and his debut album is set for release in early 2018.
