It’s been around 9 months since Kehlani’s incredible album ‘SweetSexySavage’ was released, and roughly 6 months since we heard her golden voice on ‘Good Life’ from Fast and Furious 8, but the 22-year-old has re-paid her fans’ patience with two new tracks this month. The first being ‘Honey’, released on the 6th, and the second being ‘Touch’ which was released on Friday the 13th and has a wicked Halloween vibe.
Starting with ‘Honey’, you could say that this acoustic track is more experimental than Kehlani’s previous songs as it strays from her usual R&B/electronic sound. Nevertheless, she still knocks it out of the park and continues to demonstrate her natural born talent as an artist, and why she deserves to sit with the best that R&B has to offer. Writing about her adoration for women, Kehlani has produced a beautiful, sun-kissed acoustic ballad focused on finding someone who understands you and someone who you can’t be without: “ I like my girls just like I like my honey; sweet/A little selfish. I like my women like I like my money; green/A little jealous”. “All the pretty girls in the world/But I’m in this space with you”, she sings.
Her vocals glide over the acoustic guitar loop, moving fluently throughout the song before finally spiralling out into effortless hums and gentle harmonies as she sings the unanswered question of ‘Is it love?’.

She has then wasted no time in releasing her second new single known as ‘Touch’, and it doesn’t disappoint. A more passionate track featuring heavy electronic beats associated more with her music, this is a great Halloween anthem which has been released in partnership with Budweiser as part of their global campaign to spread Halloween Spirit.
Accompanied by a haunting music video, the song relates to the physical side to a relationship, with Kehlani singing “We don’t even need to talk about it/ More love, less talk, more love/ I love it when we touch”.
As well as these two singles, the Oakland singer has been nominated for the 2017 AMA ‘Favourite Female Artist Soul/R&B’ award alongside music queens Beyoncé and Rihanna, and we can only hope that she has plenty more musical gems hidden up her sleeve for us!
