As he continues to hone and develop his stunning indie-led artistry; UK singer-songwriter Callum Burrows, better known as Saint Raymond, has just delivered his newest release with his brand new single Solid Gold. A feature off of his highly anticipated, forthcoming sophomore album, We Forgot We Were Dreaming; Solid Gold delivers a captivating array of guitar melodies and indie beats, alongside rich and skilled vocals. Following the single release, we sat down with the talented singer to talk all about Solid Gold, the upcoming album, and how he has found this year in music.
BM: Hey, how are you? Tell us a bit about yourself.
SR: I’m good thank you! I’m Saint Raymond & I’m a singer /songwriter from Nottingham.
BM: How did you know you wanted to get into music? Was that always a natural career path?
SR: I think I just grew up around music and I always absolutely loved it, I finally realised it was really what I wanted to do when I finished school and I didn’t have any other plans like all the rest of my friends so that’s when I decided to take music seriously!
BM: Congratulations on the upcoming release of your new single, Solid Gold! How does it feel to release this piece of work?
SR: Yeah really exciting thanks. I think it’s even more exciting realising this song because it’s part of a bigger body of work so I guess for me it’s just really exciting to know that there is an album coming out next year.
BM: In one sentence, how would you describe the meaning behind Solid Gold?
SR: A frustrating relationship that you know can actually work.
BM: Solid Gold comes as a feature off of your upcoming album – We Forgot We Were Dreaming, set for release next year! What can you tell us about the exciting new project?
SR: Yeah it’s been a long time coming, the second album. I’ve spent the last four years making it so to have it finally coming out it’s really exciting for me and I’m super excited for everyone to hear it.
BM: What motivates you to keep creating when you hit a writing block?
SR: I think it’s knowing that there is an end goal! I think that’s what gets me through it now and that there is something to achieve at the end of it or whether that be a gig or an album like so for me that’s what keeps me going.
BM: How have you maintained that momentum to create throughout this crazy year?
SR: It’s been really hard I’m not gonna lie but I guess I’ve just been trying to do as much as possible but not forcing myself. I think everyone deserves a bit of time off and recuperation from this crazy year so I’m not pushing myself too much.
BM: What are your main aims when it comes to your music; how do you want your music to make listeners feel and what do you want people to take away from it?
SR: I’ve always wanted to make music that I personally enjoy because I’ve always thought if I don’t enjoy it then what’s the point. I guess I also just love live music so I’ve always thought about gigs and festivals when writing my music.
BM: Having been in this industry, and releasing music for a while now; what advice would you give someone who is just starting out?
SR: Just keep on writing and don’t be scared to ask people for advice, I think that something I still struggle to do now is to ask people for advice, but getting people around you who are willing to help is so important,
BM: What do you have planned for next year – in addition to your album – as we head into 2021?
SR: Covid permitting hopefully a year full of live shows!
