Having firmly placed his stamp on the creative industry over the past year; multi-talented musician and actor Joshua Bassett unveiled his latest single Only A Matter Of Time last week. Prior to his stand out role on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, he grew up surrounded by music; rapidly becoming a multi-instrumentalist – teaching himself the ukulele, guitar and piano, and writing his first song at the age of 15. Rapidly rising to the forefront of popular culture over the past year; he continues his artistic journey as he delivers the next instalment, and second track, off of his forthcoming self-titled debut EP with Only A Matter Of Time.
Joshua commented, “I wrote this song in the summer of 2020 in a moment in time where social media was bringing a lot of darkness to my life. It was healing to put my phone down, turn off the noise and just write. There’s good that comes from social media, but it’s also become a place where people can say anything about anyone, no matter how false or damaging with no accountability. We’ve gotta be much kinder to each other and recognize there are real people behind the screens!”

Following on from the incredible success of his earlier release this year with his single Lie Lie Lie, Only A Matter Of Time sees Joshua pair his raw and emotive vocals with a stunningly delicate and heart-felt piano melody. Bringing listeners further into his artistic world; the open and candid nature of the lyrics, paired alongside the poignant and quietly passionate instrumental, has you falling deep into the songs immersive and enchanting aura. With a softly plucked acoustic guitar melody introducing the track, this weaves throughout the soundscape, driving the track along and blending effortlessly with Joshua’s honeyed and soulful vocals.
Alongside the song, Joshua also released some stunning new visuals to accompany the release. Simple, but absolutely perfect, the music video is a flawless reflection and depiction of the themes and emotion the track delves into. Set against the backdrop of a warm, golden-lit evening, the visuals sees Joshua performing the song as he walks along a deserted train track. A mesmerizing one-shot visual, the stunning videography focuses in on Joshua’s face, with the background faded into a soft blur, inviting the viewer to watch this intimate performance centred solely on Joshua and Joshua alone; heightening the emotional intensity of both the visual and the song.
