Back with a brand new release to take us into the glimmering summer months, rising Swedish artist Tove Styrke has just delivered her latest offering – her brand new single Mood Swings, alongside an accompanying music video. Her first single in three years, since her 2019 release with with RITUAL on Love Me Back, she is back and better than ever and delivering an absolutely captivating and addictive pop banger; giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. Heralding in a brand new era of music for the talented artist, there is no telling what she has in store for us next, with Tove teasing that we can expect a vibrant array of sounds and energies – “I got epic love songs that sound like the 60’s next to tracks like ‘Mood Swings’ and crazy bangers. I’M not even ready. I’m obsessed with it.”
A short but simple pop hit, Mood Swings opens with a subtly moody and intoxicating instrumental, that acts as a bed for some soft vocals and gentle harmonizing from Tove, before seamlessly building to an addictive and rhythmic pop soundscape that features a captivating percussive beat that runs throughout. With a relatable and universal narrative, the track explores the complexity of human identity and her struggles with mental health and self-acceptance, serving as a tribute to all aspects of herself; both her best and worst sides. Delivering an accompanying music video, the visuals are equally simple and intoxicating and see Tove set against a plain backdrop as she embraces and showcases all different sides of herself amidst a range of different looks and personas.
“‘Mood swings’ is insane. It’s paying tribute to my best and worst sides. I really hate myself sometimes. But I’m trying really hard not to. These past three years I’ve been through depression, fell hard in love, survived a Swedish music reality TV-show, I got a car, I got stuck with millennial blues, I feel like an adult sometimes, I feel like I did as a child. I feel kinda free.”
